Books
It's December, friends! We've been Adventing it up these last two weeks here at the Meyer home, but doesn't it seem more like the Christmas season once December arrives and the turkey has been put in the past?
So... my lovely publisher gave me the permission to give away three sets of my two latest books this one time. In case I'm confusing you, since I like to get carried away with words, it means that three different people will win a copy of both Sweet Song and The Hidden Garden!
Sheesh, I want to enter.
Just leave your name in the comments below, with a comment about anything you like, including where I can find a miniature labradoodle come the new year that won't cost me $2000!!!
And in case you don't know much about either of these two books--here's a short recap.
Sweet Song is a Christmas story! Really, it is. It's about a miracle that happened to Saint Romanos on the eve of the Nativity feast! This book should be included in your Christmas reading for your kids. Saint Romanos is an amazing role model of humility, faith and gentleness. I just love how dedicated he was to Christ, and then how he used his talents to bless the world a hundred times over with his music.
The Hidden Garden is an every-day, all-the-time story. It's a story that I literally need to read every single week, because it inspires me to be a much better human, and to constantly, always, open my heart to love--to love others and to love Christ! This is one of those stories that was written despite me--and is loved by both children and adults.
(I like my other books, too, but they aren't in the giveaway!)
Hoping to hear from you. Feel free to share this post with your friends, and don't forget to buy books this holiday season for the little people in your lives. They don't have to be my books, but having a shelf full of treasured stories is such a gift to a child.
I'll be picking three winners on Wednesday, December 10th.
The winners are: Rebekah Johnson, Christine Dr., and Rebeca!
Cheers!

Sharing a good book and a bowl of "brewsy" popcorn with my 3 year old.
I'd love to receive any free books! I will share your books with my Wednesday night Hope & Joy students!
I didn't realize the St. Romanos story was a Nativity story! How cool! And I can recommend a fabulous breeder for goldendoodles -- it's where we got our beloved dog (who will be ten years old this month!). http://www.thegoldendoodles.net/
Thank you for the link, Charli! Will call :)
I still enjoy children's books.
me too! :)
We love your books, Jane! Our sweet dog, who passed away in September, was a Labradoodle. He was the BEST dog in the world, but definitely not miniature. He was 104 pounds. 104 pounds of cuddly sweetness. Good luck on the hunt!
Thanks Michelle! 104 pounds. Sorry about the loss--we still miss our sweet Zeke, and he's been gone for more than ten years now... Love to you
Thanks, Jane. We can't even get a new dog because Leo was so wonderful that no dog will ever measure up. Maybe in time. :)
Let your local vets know you want to rescue. My neighbor is a vet and she got all her pets thru abandoned pet hospital pets--including a mini labridoodle. Let local shelter know the same--they keep call lists so they can move animals out more quickly. :)
Thanks for the tip, Christina. I'll call around and get my name everywhere!
Both books sound wonderful. Thank you and have a peaceful advent!
You too, Beth. We are trying our best to keep our hearts in a place of peace. The word can not be used too often, thanks for spreading it here...
I would love these books to read to my boys! Have a blessed Advent and Christmas. Send my love to the family, especially that spunky little boy of yours :)
Rebekah, miss you. Thanks for the greetings! (He's still spunky--practicing drums at this very moment!)
Rebekah, you won! :)
Wow! I am so excited, thank you so much!
They look like lovely books!
Thanks, Abigail! May God be glorified...
Thank you for a giveaway. I am an Orthodox books bookwarm and have been looking at the Hidden Garden for awhile now to get for my children...The other book sounds great too and I know my son would love the story. Have a great Nativity season!
Blessed fast to you too, Elena! All the best.
Oh, I would love these books! I'm always looking for good Orthodox children's books. Plus, the St Romanus book gives me an idea for our yolks play.
Cecily. I'm curious what yolks play is? Would love to know...
No idea on the dog - maybe craig's list or human society shelter? Your books would be great additions for our shelf! My husband has great ideas for Orthodox Children's books, but then we find a month later a similar book has already been published. What's your secret?
Keep your eye out for the dog. We need spies! Wow, the only secret I have is that I'm stubborn, and keep writing. For every book I've had published there are two or three that haven't made the cut. I try not to look for the holes in the market (except in my editing job) but instead write those stories that most appeal to me, that teach me something I need to learn. I wish you all the best!
What a beautiful way to share God with children and adults. Your books are amazing and would loved them signed by you dearest Jane!----that is IF I would happen to win, which I never win anything! Good luck to all and to all a good night! Love, kh. T
Tammy, you're the best, my friend. Wishing I could pop out east again and give you a hug...
I've been looking for good books for Christmas gifts. These would fit the book nicely!
Have you tried http://doodlerescue.org ?
Nope. Thanks!
We would love to win! We would keep sweet song for our house and gift the hidden garden to our godchild!
Aren't godchildren the best?!!! Since my godchildren already have all my books :) I'm buying them the Child's Guide to the Divine Liturgy that I had the good fortune to work on. If y'all haven't seen that yet, you should check it out!
The reality expressed in The Secret Garden is for me the heart of the faith - and the idea of the secret garden as my heart came to me in a dream long ago. Thank you for having a giveaway!
I love your books, Jane. Thank you and your publisher for this generous opportunity!
GretchenJoanna. Blessings... Your heart just seeps beauty. Heidi, thanks for the nice words!
Perfect Christmas gift for the littles!!!

Thanks for your generous offer, praying we have the oppty to send these to my orthodox musician daughter who is off to Hellenic College and missing her so!
Christine, isn't it so hard when they're away? We're off to fetch my son in two weeks, who is studying in England. Can't wait to kiss that face!
Ms Jane, you are so right. You are a rock-star Mother, enduring such a distance from your love (England).....this daughter is my first to go, and with the tenderest heart, so I am learning the steps to this dance of launching our children out into the world. I would so love to bless her with your beautiful writing, she sings in the Byzantine Choir and plays viola, St. Romanos is one of our favorites!!
Christine, you won!
THank you so much - I'm so excited!!!! Thank you so much for your kindness and generosity! xoxoxoxoxo What do we do next??

My Daughter loves the hidden garden. I would love to give a copy to my God daughter :)
My three boys (7,5,3) would love these books! They are musical so the St Romanos book I think will hit home especially for them.
These are wonderful books for the read aloud time with my grands!
Thank you for creating beautiful books for our children!
Love your books, and would love to read them to our grandchildren!
We'd be honored to have these in our library and I hope your next book will be illustrated by a Romanian artist!
Commenting here to enter the giveaway! :)
I have only heard of praises about The Hidden Garden book so I have always craved for it. It is a surprise to find that St. Romanos made a miracle on the eve of Christmas, I am really curious to read about it and share it with our kids.
What a fun giveaway! I've had both of these on my list for awhile. My 7 yo gets really excited about books about saints, so I know she will love the St. Romanos story. :)
Your website makes me smile. Thank you!
A hot cup of coffee, and a collection of writings from The Church Fathers awaits!
Check out Marley's Mutts Dog Rescue. They are out of California and provide a wonderful alternative to the dog breeders. Currently Lunch Hour Read: "Ascetic Discources" by Abba Isaiah of Scetis. Current at Home Children's Read to our 18 month old: "Every time I do my Cross" and "Woman and the Wheat".
Thanks for the dog info, Michael Anthony! My current before bed read: Nearly Orthodox (almost done), and my morning read (besides the Psalms with Orthodox Mom): Words for Our Time. I'm debating what's next for the read aloud with John Ronan. I'm thinking The Chronicles of Prydain. Love 18 month olds!
Here are some miniature labradoodles for you. (Needle felted!) http://www.dogartportraits.com/labradoodle.html
:) Certainly less to clean up after!
Rebeca, you won!
How exciting! Thank you so much! Let me know what I need to do. :) We already have The Hidden Garden, so now I will have an extra copy to share. :) Yay!
I'm always looking for wonderful children's books for my 5 grandchildren! You books look wonderful!
Five grandchildren! What a blessing...
How wonderful you've written additional Children's books.I would so love to win these for my newly baptized God-daughter. She's turning 2 on the Feast day of Saint Nicholas. Need to bring her up right with Orthodox literature to surround and comfort her. Wish I could help with the dog. We have 4 Aussies. Obviously great dogs cause we keep adopting more.
Sweet Song is a beautiful book! Would love to read Hidden Garden with my baby girl :)
Thanks for the nice words, Therese. All the best...
Every Christmas we try to expand our children's library with Orthodox children's books. Just can't have too many! :) There are no better role models for our children than the lives of saints.
God bless! These would be wonderful books for our Church library! :)
Shared on my FB page :) Great books to add to our Sunday School collection!
Wishing your publisher and you you/your family all the Joy of this Season! I look forward to sharing your books (even if I don't win) with families that I meet when I teach children in their homes.
Thanks for the good wishes, Alyson! Hoping to meet you one of these days :)
Jane, may we enter all the way from Australia. We love your books and here is a link to your beautiful little pooches all the way from OZ. A very Merry Christmas to you and your family. http://www.kirktonlabradoodles.com.au/
Australia! How awesome. A merry Christmas to you as well, Lisa.
I would love your books to add to my Sunday school collection for 4th graders
And by the way, I have a family friend whose father passed away in August. He left behind a labradoodle that you may be interested in.

Wow, Sweet Song sounds like a very interesting book. Regards from Belgium !!
Regards from Santa Barbara! Thanks for commenting, Euclides!
I would love to win these books! I'm a nerd and listened to the Hidden Garden a few weeks ago on OCN. I had no idea that they had books on audio! Labradoodle! I can't believe that type of dog exists. Now I've got to see what they look like. Hmmm I have no idea where one would find them! I asked my friend who is a dog person and she said that since it's a mixed breed, she cannot find them thru the American Kennel Club. I've never owned a dog, so hopefully I'm making sense! Good luck and remember Christiana for the win! ;)
